Etiquette of Golf

The etiquette of golf are a set of rules and regulations all golfers, either whether in competition or in social play, are obliged to follow. The rules and regulations are usually set by a golf clubs governing body and don't really differ all to much from club to club. The etiquette of golf ensures that every player can play the game  of golf under safe and controlled conditions. The etiquette of golf consist of the following rules and regulations:

  • The lowest marker in a group is responsible for the conduct of his/her fellow players.
  • No one shall move, talk or stand close or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing a ball or making a swing or stroke.
  • No player shall hit until the players in front are out of range.
  • When the play of a hole has been completed, players shall immediately leave the putting green. Cards must be marked before commencement from the next tee.
  • The player who has the honour shall be allowed to play before his/her opponent(s) or fellow competitor(s) tees the ball.
  • Don't delay in calling the following players through when searching for a ball or after losing your place in the field because of slow play. When called through, these players must be out of range before you can continue to play.
  • Before leaving a bunker, a player must carefully fill up all holes made by him/her therein. Leave the rake with the handle placed in line with the direction of play.
  • Through the green a player should ensure that any turf cut or displaced by him/her is replaced at once and pressed down and that, AFTER ALL PLAYERS HAVE HOLED OUT, any damage to the putting surface such as plug or spike marks made by the player is carefully repaired.
  • Be patient, tactful and pleasant and endeavor to assist those not as knowledgeable as yourself in the game.
  • Penalties can now be applied if the etiquette of golf rules and regulations are disregarded or ignored, so abide by them on the course.
If all the rules and regulation of the etiquette of golf are followed, every golfer will not only enjoy the game but hopefully play better.
