The Rules of Golf

The Rules of Golf and the Rule of Amateur Status

The rules of golf and the rules of amateur status  are standardised procedures that enable the game to be played in a manner that is fair to all players that are participating. The general principle in which the rules of golf were established is; Play the ball as it lies, play the course as you find it, and if you cannot do either, do what is fair. This statement provides the basis in which all the relevant rules of golf are generated.

The rules of golf and the rules of amateur status are regulated and governed by the R&A. The committee of the R&A are based primarily at St Andrews Golf Club, Scotland, but employ committee representatives from throughout the globe. The most prevalent rules of golf committee apart from the committee at St Andrews Golf Club, is the committee of the United Stated Golf Association.

The rules of golf and the rules of amateur status are standardised in a easy to access Rules of Golf book, which is published by Rolex and Randa. The Rules of Golf book can be accessed from www.randa.org, but can be downloaded below.
