Vijay Singh


Vijay Singh, CF (born 22 February 1963), nicknamed "The Big Fijian", is a Fijian professional golfer who was number one in the Official World Golf Rankings for 32 weeks in 2004 and 2005. He has won three major championships (The Masters in 2000 and the PGA Championship in 1998 and 2004) and was the leading PGA Tour money winner in 2003, 2004 and 2008. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2006. He won the FedEx Cup in 2008.

An Indo-Fijian of Hindu background, Singh was born in Lautoka, Fiji and grew up in Nadi. His name means Victorious Lion. A resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, he is known for his meticulous preparation, often staying at the range hours before and after his tournament rounds working on his game.

Singh is married to Ardena Seth, who is Malaysian. They have a son, Qass Seth.

Vijay Singh was born on the 22nd of February, 1963 as "Vijay Singh". Singh was born in Lautoka, Fiji and his father was a airplane technician that also gave golfing lessons.

Vijay (meaning victory in Hindi) learnt many of his golfing skills from his father. Singh turned professional in 1982, winning his first major competition in 1984 (PGA Championship - Malaysian Open). In 1985 the pro golfer was involved in a controversial scorecard tampering scandal, where Singh was accused of cheating and was suspended from the professional Asian golf tour. The golfer denied all allegations against him.

Vijay Singh's golfing career has developed over many years, winning occasional golf tournaments but never being a contender for the number one golf player in the world. From the year 2000 Singh's golfing game improved dramatically. He began winning major tournaments, including The Masters in 2000, Shell Houston Open in 2002, and more. The Fijian golfer was the highest money earner in 2003 with a total of $7,573,907 USD in prize earnings. He was also ranked the number 1 golfer in the world in 2003 and 2004. Singh also became the first golfer to earn more than $10 million in 2004.
